One witness said he arrived near Huawei Bridge at 8:30 am and saw the bus on fire close to the bus station which is situated not far from the United International Building, an office building.

Two fire fighting vehicles soon arrived at the scene of the blaze which apparently started in the engine and soon spread to the rest of the bus.

The witness said the windows of the bus were all shattered, and the vehicle was completely destroyed.

The Beijing meteorological center issued a high temperature orange-coded heat alert Monday morning, and forecast that the temperature would exceed 40 Celsius in some parts of the city in the afternoon.
