Nearly 60 percent of white-collar workers have plans to leave first-tier cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, according to an online survey, chinanews.com.cn reported Friday.

Skyrocketing housing prices, high consumption levels, big work pressures and fierce competition are the main reasons for leaving.

As for where they’re going, cities in the central and western part of China are the first choice – with 23 percent choosing those regions. Twenty-one percent chose the second-tier eastern coastal cities, and 9 percent chose northern second-tier cities, while only 10 percent say they have not made up their minds yet, but any city would be good as long as it is not a first-tier city.
