A police officer was gunned down Sunday in a operation to break a drug trafficking ring in Huizhou City of south China's Guangdong Province, provincial police said Monday.
Du Yuhua, 32, a senior officer with the municipal drug police, was shot in the abdomen by a suspect during the operation in the afternoon and died at about 9:30 p.m. after treatment failed, said a spokesman with the provincial police.
The police detained 10 suspects, including two Taiwanese, and seized a gun with 5 bullets and 12.135 kg of white powder and 43 red pills -- believed to be drugs.
Initial investigations show the suspects planned to transport the drugs from Huizhou to Taiwan.
