Cross-Straits pacts ease tensions: Ma Ying-jeou

Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou said Saturday that agreements signed over the past two years between Taiwan and the mainland had eased tension across the Taiwan Strait and improved relations.
Taiwan has perceived the goodwill of the mainland side, and expects cross-Straits relations would "enter into a virtuous cycle," said Ma at a meeting of the Kuomintang (KMT) held in Taipei.
The two sides reached 14 agreements, covering topics like direct transport, post and trade services, judicial and financial cooperation, as well as the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA), a key pact to bring the two economies closer.
The ECFA will greatly benefit Taiwan, and the opposition party will stand against the people if they continue opposing it, said Ma, also KMT chairman.
