Bus accidents killed 9, injured 48 in W.China

Nine people died and 48 were injured in two accidents involving buses in west China Wednesday.

A bus and a truck collided at about 8 a.m. on a highway in Qin'an County, in Tianshui City of northwestern Gansu Province, leaving seven dead and 13 injured, said a statement from Tianshui municipal government.

In the second accident, a bus overturned and rolled down a 5-meter slope at about 7:20 a.m. on a highway in Hezhang County, of southwestern Guizhou Province, a spokesman with local traffic police said.

Two people died and 35 were injured, nine of them seriously, while one passenger was still missing, the spokesman said.

The injured were taken to hospital, he said.

Police are investigating the causes of the two accidents.
