Police in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, has confirmed a patient's claim that her anus was sewn up by a midwife who allegedly took revenge on her during her labor because her family failed to pay her a good tip.

A medical report by the police showed her anus had been sewn with black threads near her bleeding hemorrhoid, which was denied by the midwife surnamed Zhang, reported Nanfang Daily today.

Zhang said she proposed the ligature treatment to cure the patient's bleeding pile during her labor in July, out of her warm heart although she breached the professional practice.

The director of Fenghuang Hospital in Luohu District where Zhang worked, said she couldn't make a comment because she didn't see the report and further investigation is needed to confirm Zhang's action.

Zhang was also unavailable for comments.

The patient's husband claimed the midwife had hinted them to give her extra money before the child's birth on July 23. But they only gave her 100 yuan (US$15) which she thought too small.
