At least 17 people were injured Wednesday in a gas outburst at an office building in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Compressed gas gushed out of a container at about 5 p.m. on the second floor of a 20-storey office building in Nanning, the regional capital. The building belongs to the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional Highway Administration.
The building's air-conditioning equipment and fire-fighting facilities were located on the second floor, and the gas was likely carbon dioxide, Wen Shourong, vice mayor of Nanning, told a Xinhua reporter at the scene.
The outburst smashed windows and destroyed the ceiling of the second floor of the building.
An initial investigation showed an employee of a fire-fighting equipment company was examining equipment in the building when the outburst occurred, said Liu Dong, a fireman at the scene.
All of the injured were hospitalized in stable conditions.
More than 150 people were evacuated from the building because of the accident.
The cause of the accident is being investigated.
