An AIDS patient stood on trial Tuesday in central China's Henan Province after damaging property at a hospital where he suspected contracting the HIV virus by blood transfusion.

Tian Xi, a resident in Gulv Township of HIV-plagued Xincai County, was charged with damaging property at the Xincai People's Hospital and at or near home of the hospital president on five occasions as of Aug. 2, the Xincai County People's Court said.

Tian took the actions after failing to get any compensation from the hospital where he believed he contracted the HIV by blood transfusion, the court said.

Tian was arrested on Aug. 23 after failing to persuade him to give up actions, it said.

The court will announce the verdict on another day.

Tian was diagnosed as HIV positive in July 2004 during a government-initiated testings.
