Police have arrested five people, including two traffic police, on suspicion of raping a 16-year-old girl who later died when she jumped out of a hotel building to escape her attackers.

The five suspects, who were held in a detention center soon after the incident occurred ear-lier this month in Fenghuang county, Central China's Hunan Province, were arrested Thursday, according to a statement posted on the Fenghuang government's website Friday.

The young girl, who is surnamed Qiu and originally from Hubei Province, had traveled with her friend Lili (not her real name) to Fenghuang early this month. In Fenghuang, Lili introduced Qiu to some of her local contacts, who took them to a local KTV bar.

Later, both Qiu and Lili were taken to a local hotel where Qiu was alleged to have been repeat-edly molested by several men, until she broke away from the group and jumped from the ninth floor, the statement said.

It was reported that Lili also feared being raped but managed to escape, according to Chutian Metropolis Daily. The report said that the hotel's surveillance camera showed a man carrying Qiu into the hotel and another man escorting Lili into it.

Qiu Yonggui, the victim's father, told the Global Times Friday he had demanded that the local public security bureau provide an autopsy report, as he suspected that his daughter had been drugged and wanted the suspects to be convicted as soon as possible.
