Foshan hopes to show charm through Asiad

Foshan officials met Wednesday to discuss preparations and their hopes for the city when it hosts two events of the 16th Asian Games in November.

Vice Mayor Mai Jiehua said Foshan hopes to show its charm through the Asiad. The Guangdong Province city will host boxing events from Nov. 16 to 26 and synchronized swimming events from Nov. 19 to 21. Mai also said she hopes the games will help the city improve its management and benefit the people.

Ye Zhirong, minister of the Guangzhou Publicity Department, said the games have already helped Foshan develop relations with other cities and display Foshan's culture.

"As with the improved transportation systems and the advantageous location – a hub in the Pearl River Delta region – Foshan made breakthroughs in deepening cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao and also has had more exchanges and cooperation with foreign countries," Ye said.
