A court in northeast China's Jilin Province on Tuesday sentenced two people to death with a two-year reprieve for drug trafficking.

Liu Hongbo purchased drugs from Cheng Zonghai in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province. Liu then sold them to Cheng Qi in Changchun City, capital of Jilin, who sold them to seven others, according to a verdict of the Intermediate People's Court of Changchun.

The transactions occurred in September and October 2009, it said.

Cheng Zonghai sold nearly 2.47 kg of methamphetamine pills. Liu sold about 2 kg of the pills. Cheng and Liu were both sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve, the verdict said.

Cheng Qi, who sold about 0.4 kg of the drugs was sentenced to life in prison. Another seven people who bought drugs from Cheng were given jail terms from one to 15 years for drug trafficking or illegally possessing drugs.
