6 killed after coal mine shaft collapses in NW China

Six workers were killed Tuesday after an abandoned mine shaft collapsed in the capital city of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, local coal mine safety administration said.

The accident occurred at 5:37 p.m. Tuesday in Midong District of Urumqi City, when the six workers were working under the mine to repair the fire dam. The workers died at the scene.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
