Top university sets up religious studies institute

There are, of course, already humanities departments in many Chinese higher institutions. Peking University and Renmin University of China both offer excellent undergraduate degree courses.

But the IASHR at Beijing Normal University will only enroll masters' and doctoral students, and will concentrate its efforts and resources on research.

The institute will encourage students to conduct research from multiple perspectives. Among the first topics will be the evolution of Buddhism and its impact on the Chinese language.
