A hit-and-run suspect was detained by police early Tuesday morning, hours after he allegedly drove into a dragon-dancing parade killing five and injuring another five at a highway section in Gao'an City, east China's Jiangxi Province.
A spokesman of the Gao'an city government said police detained the suspect in a Hyuandai car at 2 a.m. Tuesday, five hours after he escaped from the hit-and-run scene.
The spokesman said the car ran into the group of dragon dancers from Huangshagang Township, who were passing through the highway section. Four of them were killed on the spot, and another died in the hospital.
Police are continuing the investigation into the accident.
