A college student in southwest China has appealed against death sentence for killing a fellow student and two others as he felt being despised for his appearance.

Zeng Shijie, a Public Management School student of Sichuan University, came from a poor rural family. He said he had long suffered from the inferiority complex because other classmates always made fun of his appearance, the local West China Metro Daily reported today.

"I could have been a nice person and I will live an honest, down-to-earth life if the court can commute my sentence," Zeng pleaded.

Zeng was handed down the verdict by the Chengdu No. 1 Intemediate People's Court early last year.

He was convicted of killing one female student and injuring two male students on campus last March. He told police that he didn't know the victims and couldn't remember why he committed the crime.

Investigation showed he didn't have any mental problem, but the result drew doubts from several experts. Zeng's lawyer said they were applying for a second test.
