Five crew members were found dead and six remained missing after their fishing boat hit a reef off east China coast early Monday, local maritime authorities said.

All 11 people aboard a fishing boat fell into the waters after it capsized after hitting a reef near Dongji Isle off the coast of Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province, in the wee hours of Monday, the city's maritime affairs bureau said in a statement.

After receiving a call for help at around 1 a.m., the city's maritime search and rescue center has sent over 10 rescue vessels and a helicopter to locate the boat wreck and missing fishermen.

Rescuers recovered five bodies at around 4 p.m. and were continuing to search for the remaining six.
