Liu Jianjun, 51, was sentenced to death on two counts of crime, including murder and illegal possession of guns and ammunition, according to a verdict issued by the Intermediate People's Court of Tai'an City in Shandong, where the crime was committed.

Liu, who used to be convicted and imprisoned in 1984 and 1993 for three other counts of lesser crime such as theft and intentional injury, said he would not appeal his case.

On Jan.4, Liu, along with his elder brother Liu Lumin, shocked the nation by shooting dead four policemen while fleeing from the investigation of a murder case, in which the younger Liu stabbed and killed a man named Dou Guangdong in revenge, the court was told.

While escaping, the brothers hijacked four cars and injured three police officers and two civilians, using a homemade pistol and a double-barreled shotgun.

The other member of the duo, Liu Lumin, shot and killed himself when cornered by the police.

Liu Jianmin, another brother of Liu Jianjun, also received life imprisonment for his role as an accessory in the murder of Dou in December 2010.
