A database for human organ transplantation is expected to be set up in China, said a deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC), the Beijing Times reports.

Wang Wei, the party secretary of the Red Cross Society of China, said the amended draft of the regulations concerning human organ transplant have been submitted to the State Council.

The database, set up by a third party, will include information on donors and recipients and help allocate proper human organs for those in need.

China has around 10,000 organ transplantation surgeries each year while demand for organs has reached up to 1,500,000. The shortage in supply-and-demand has aroused unauthorized organ purchases and sales.

It is reported that the Red Cross Society of China has presided over an organ donations project entrusted by the Ministry of Health since March last year. Organ donation committees have been established in 11 provinces so far.
