Archeologists in southwest China's Sichuan Province have found four well-preserved tombs that are believed to date back to the Song Dynasty, nearly 1,000 years old.

The tombs were found Sunday by construction workers in Guojiashan, a village in Hedong Town of Nanbu County, where an industrial park was being built.

The tombs were built of stones and each chamber was about 2.8 meters long, 1.1 meters wide and 2.1 meters tall. The walls and ceilings of each chamber were carved with Chinese characters and pictures.

Cultural heritage experts are perusing the text and illustrations, hoping to identify who the tombs belonged to, said Chen Gang, the county's heritage chief.
