Livestock in southwest China's Guizhou Province have tested positive for foot-and-mouth disease, said China's Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) Friday.
The virus was detected in 87 cattle and 4 pigs in Jinshan Village, Tianzhu County, Qiandongnan Miao-Dong Autonomous Prefecture of Guizhou Province, on March 29.
Test results revealed Wednesday that the animals were carrying the O type virus, said a MOA press statement.
The virus had killed 12 cattle and 2 pigs, and all infected livestock and 680 other animals raised nearby had been killed and properly disposed of, it said.
The epidemic has been effectively contained, the MOA said.
