Many villagers suffered food poisoning after attending a wedding feast at a village in Changsha, capital of central China's Hunan Province, local authorities said early Sunday.

The villagers from Wufeng Village showed symptoms of accelerated heart rate and vomiting at around 8:00 p.m. Saturday and had been sent to hospital for treatment, Changsha's publicity department said in a circular.

The circular did not say how many villagers were sickened.

A nurse at the No. 3 Xiangya hospital told Xinhua that at least 50 villagers with food poisoning symptoms were treated at the hospital.

Relatives of the villagers told Xinhua that the sickened villagers had been sent to different hospitals for treatment.

Investigations into the incident are underway.
