Wang Qingsong, who came from Henan province, was a prominent student in Peking University in the 1980s and became a teacher at the university after graduating. But he became increasingly frustrated about his career and decided to resign from the college in 2000.

He and his wife, Zhang Mei, settled in a village near Beijing and started farming in order to provide a healthier environment for their son to grow up in. The family stayed in the village for 10 years.

Now, Wang has decided to come back to the city with his wife and 7-year-old son because of financial pressures.
