Rainstorm pounded southwest China's tourist city of Guilin in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Sunday, prompting authorities to suspend road traffic and issue storm warnings.

Heavy rain started to fall in Guilin and surrounding area Sunday morning. Rainfall reached 70 mm by 11 a.m. and is expected to surge further to 100 mm by 2 p.m., local weather forecast bureau said.

Cave-ins were reported at a section of a inter-provincial road, forcing authorities to order traffic suspension. Work crews have been sent to prevent cave-ins from occurring aong the road.

There is no immediate report of casualties.

Guilin, with its unique picturesque landscapes, is a prime tourist destination in and out of China. It holds two sites enlisted to the UNESCO World Natural Heritage.
