Mainland calls for increased media exchanges with Taiwan

A spokeswoman on Taiwan affairs of the Chinese mainland called for deepened media exchanges and cooperation between the two sides on Monday.

Fan Liqing, spokeswoman for the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office,said the mainland and Taiwan are embracing a new opportunity for media cooperation offered by the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement signed in June 2010, a landmark in cross-Strait relations since the two sides split after the 1949 civil war.

Fan made the remarks at the second Cross-Strait Media and Communication Forum in Xiamen of Fujian Province.

She urged media organizations on the two sides to shoulder their responsibility in helping maintain the good momentum of peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.

She expected media to help create a favorable atmosphere for expanding and deepening cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation.
