A snake saved three years ago by a farmer in Guangxing village, Hubei province, recently returned to the farmer's house in what seemed to be an act of gratitude.
Li Jing, the farmer, was walking home from work one day in the winter of 2008, when he saw a small seriously injured snake lying next to the road. Li took the snake home and treated it.
After the snake recovered, he released it in a forest on the hill near his house.
"Recently I kept hearing a rustling sound behind me when I came home from work, but I couldn't see anything," Li said.
When Li arrived home on the night of Aug 22, he found a large snake lying under his table. He recognized it as the snake he once saved because of its skin pattern, covered it with his clothes and put it into a bag. The snake was calm and did not threaten Li.
The farmer told the story to an old man in his village who suggested the snake had returned to show its gratitude for Li rescuing it three years earlier.
