Senior Chinese leader He Guoqiang on Wednesday stressed the need to improve the mechanism for preventing and punishing corruption in China, in a bid to push forward the country's current anti-graft work.

He, head of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, called it a strategic policy for the Party Central Committee to develop and improve the mechanism for punishing and preventing corruption and it is a main task for fighting corruption under new circumstances.

The 2008-2012 period is critical for implementing the country's anti-graft plan, the senior Party official said, adding that substantial efforts are required to push the program forward.

Improving the Party's work style, building a clean government and fighting corruption are long-term tasks, and building up the mechanism for punishing and preventing corruption is also a dynamic project that should keep pace with the times.
