Typhoon Nesat has caused rivers in southernmost China's Hainan island and coastal Zhejiang province to reach flood alert levels, the flood control authority said Friday.

Heavy downpours spawned by Nesat swept Hainan, southwestern Guangdong, southeastern Guangxi and eastern Zhejiang in the past two days. The sea level surrounding south and southeast China exceeded the normal limits by 0.01 to 0.47 meters, according to the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.

The Nandu River on Hainan exceeded the safe line by 0.71 to 4.02 meters after the torrential rainfalls. Rivers in the coastal area in southern Zhejiang surpassed the alert level by 0.1 to 0.73 meters.

Rains have inundated farmland in some typhoon-affected areas, and gales have uprooted trees. No casualties or disasters have been reported so far, the flood control authority said.
