Wang Yue, the toddler who was ignored by 18 passers-by after she was the victim of a hit and run passed away early this moring, her doctors said.

General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Command said the girl was failed to be rescued and died at 0:32am, Shanghai Daily reported today.

Her condition had been worsening overnight, and that all available resources were being employed to try to save her, said her doctor.

In a statement to the media on Thursday, the hospital said her key organs were deteriorating. "Her heart is failing and on Thursday she suffered a swelling in her lungs and, at 11.43am, her heart stopped beating. We managed to save her after 40 minutes of resuscitation."

The 2-year-old girl, Wang Yue, was left bleeding on a street after a hit-and-run accident on Oct 13 in Foshan city of Guangdong province. Eighteen people walked past the girl, yet no one did anything to help her, only for the child to be hit by a second vehicle. She was finally rescued by an old trash collector Chen Xianmei. The apathy of the bystanders outraged netizens in China and worldwide, sparking their condemnation against the moral decline of society and call for a Good Samarian law in China.
