The protective-door system at a Guangzhou subway station shattered on Thursday evening, but no casualties or injuries were reported, Yangcheng Evening News reported.

According to one eyewitness who was among other passengers waiting for a subway train on Line 5's Dashadi Subway Station, the sliding door in front of them exploded suddenly, making people nearby scatter in astonishment.

The screen door, which fortunately, was made from safety glass, shattered into small cracks which reduced the likelihood of injuries.

Railways staff said that they cordoned off the broken door, and informed passengers of its temporary closure.

The local metro management authority said that the door functioned as would be expected when put under stress. It is now being held together with sticky tape. The incident hasn't influenced the operation of the station.
