A female official in the northeast province of Liaoning, convicted of graft, was executed Wednesday after the supreme court approved her death sentence.

Luo Yaping, born in December 1960, embezzled 32.39 million yuan (5.14 million U.S. dollars) of public funds, which was supposed to be compensation for land requisition, when she was working at the urban planning and land use departments of a district in Fushun city of Liaoning from 2004 to 2007, according to a statement from the Supreme People's Court.

She took bribes totaling 300,000 yuan from two real estate companies from 2001 to 2005.

In addition, Luo did not prove she had legally obtained 32.55 million yuan of property.

The Intermediate People's Court of Shenyang, capital of Liaoning, sentenced her to death in December 2010 and the provincial court upheld the verdict in June 2011 after she appealed.
