China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Monday called for maintaining peaceful development of cross-Strait relations between the mainland and Taiwan.

Jia, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remarks at the celebrating meeting for the 30th anniversary of the founding of All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots (ACFTC).

Established in December 1981, the ACFTC consists of Taiwanese compatriots residing in the Chinese mainland.

Jia said the achievements of peaceful development of the cross-Strait ties should be well maintained, urging Chinese all over the world to keep the correct direction and good momentum of cross-Strait relations.

Jia called for opposing "Taiwan independence," and deepening exchanges and cooperation between the two sides and sticking to the 1992 Consensus.
