The Sanya Urban Comprehensive Development Office in Sanya, Hainan Province, was vandalized last Sunday and taken over shortly afterwards by the Sanya Municipal Bureau of Science, Technology and Information.

A member of staff working at the Development Office, surnamed Zhou, said that Room 1108, being used as Development Office's work premises, had been destroyed by the time she showed up for work on November 27. 1700 yuan belonging to an employee was also missing.

A decorating company turned up shortly afterwards, though Zhou stated that the Development Office had not arranged for any decorating to take place.

A man from the decorating company said that work in Room 1108 had been approved by the Municipal Bureau. He also added that the Bureau had stated that the room belonged to them.

A member of staff in charge at the Municipal Bureau said that Room 1108 had already been distributed to his bureau, but claimed to be unaware as to why the room had been damaged.

However, Zhou said that the Development Office had not received any governmental document asking them to vacate the room.

On November 21, the Municipal Bureau provided an unofficial document to the Development Office, stating that the Municipal Office had distributed the room to the Municipal Bureau, and demanded that the Development Office move out by November 24.

Zhou said negotiations between the two departments had previously taken place, but the Development Office refused to move due to a lack of options for workspaces. She also said that the leaders of both departments had been unable to reach an agreement over the matter.

Wu Qingxiong, Management Director of the building said that the Municipal Office had not issued any documents granting the Municipal Bureau the right to use Room 1108, reiterating that the Development Office still has the right to work in the office.

The case is currently being investigated by the police.
