More than 150 historical buildings are prone to fire and lightning strikes due to a lack of protective measures, according to Beijing Municipal Administration of Cultural Relics, which recently inspected the city's 355 cultural sites under municipal or state protection.

Poor maintenance was also found in 43 old houses, which have been overly inhabited or improperly used, said the administration.

Moreover, 80 percent of Beijing's historical relic sites under district or county protection reported hidden safety dangers, the administration added.

The administration said it will ask all government units in charge of cultural relics protection to conduct thorough inspections and to clear safety risks for the dry seasons of winter and spring.
