China has the desire to support Niger in its pursuit of peace and development, a senior official said on Tuesday.

Chen Changzhi, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, made the remark during a meeting with a delegation of the Nigerien Party for Democracy and Socialism (PNDS Tarayya).

The delegation is being led by Bazoum Mohamed, Niger's minister of state in charge of foreign affairs and cooperation.

Chen said the Chinese government and people regard the people of Niger as "brothers and real friends," adding that Niger has been China's important cooperative partner in Africa.

Mohamed vowed to firmly deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with China.

The five-person delegation, invited by the Communist Party of China (CPC), arrived in Beijing on Dec. 11.
