China is not planning to change blood donation laws after a report claimed the age cap on donors would be amended, Beijing Morning News reported Wednesday.

A report on Tuesday said China is considering lifting the age cap on blood donors from 18 to 55 to 17 to 60 years old due to a shortage of blood donations.

But the Ministry of Health said in a news conference on Wednesday that the report was based on the personal opinion of a few experts and it has not officially launched any amendments to the existing legislation.

"China's population base is very big and we should focus more on inspiring more eligible people of the right age to donate blood, so as to meet the increasing demand", said Deng Haihua, the ministry's spokesman.

China's blood donation laws do not ban people outside the legal age cap from donating blood voluntarily.
