An explosion occurred in a chemical plant in Shanghai's Songjiang District on January 5, 2011.



One worker is missing and three others were injured after an explosion ripped through a chemical plant in Shanghai's Songjiang District early this morning.

The explosion happened at Shanghai Habo Chemical Technology Co around 2:30am. The powerful blast shattered windows of the factory and nearby buildings.

A worker's mishandling of peracetic acid caused the blowup, preliminary investigation has found. The worker remains missing.

The three workers suffered minor injuries and are in stable condition.

Authorities said monitoring of air quality showed no environmental concerns.

Investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
