China relaxes rules for army recruits

New soldiers are being trained in Guangdong, south China.

On October 29, the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, approved the amendment to the country's military conscription law. The amendment is aimed at recruiting more well-educated young people into the army. College students who suspend their studies to serve will get 6,000 yuan (US$948) in tuition fees for each academic year. In Beijing on November 1, more than 1,000 youths took the physical examination in hospitals.
