Zhang Qingwei was elected governor of north China's Hebei Province Tuesday at the fifth session of the 11th Hebei Provincial People's Congress, the local legislative body.

Zhang, born in November 1961, was appointed Hebei's vice governor and acting governor on Aug. 27 last year after the local legislature approved the resignation of his predecessor Chen Quanguo.

Chen was previously elected Party chief of Tibet Autonomous Region.

Zhang, a native of Laoting County in Hebei, had long worked in the country's aerospace industry. He served as board chairman of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd. from March 3, 2008 to August 2011.
