Senior Chinese leader Li Changchun on Friday called on the organizers of a leading moral model poll to further contribute to the country's initiatives in building socialist core values.
Li, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, urged the team to reinforce the moral grounds of all Chinese by finding and promoting more models.
Launched by the China Central Television (CCTV) in 2002, the annual "Touching China" program selects the country's ten most inspiring individuals or groups and live broadcasts an award-presenting ceremony every year.
In his letter of congratulations to Friday's ceremony, Li extended his gratitude to the organizers for their efforts in the past decade's selections.
Those honored models demonstrated the fine traditions and virtues of the Chinese nation, said Li, identifying them as the moral avant-gardes of the time.
Senior CPC official Liu Yunshan also wrote to the ceremony.
Among the laureates of 2012, a Taiwan ex-journalist was honored for doing remarkable voluntary work in west China, making her the first one outside the Chinese mainland receiving the award in the past decade.
