The National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee will convene its bimonthly session from Feb. 27-29, as a final preparation for the NPC's annual full session scheduled to begin on March 5.

An important task during the three-day session is to prepare for the upcoming Fifth Session of the 11th NPC, according to a statement issued after a meeting of the chairman and vice chairpersons of the NPC Standing Committee, presided over by top legislator Wu Bangguo on Friday.

At the bimonthly session, legislators will discuss a draft report on the work of the NPC Standing Committee which is to be submitted to the annual session, the statement said.

Lawmakers will also discuss the draft schedule of the annual session, the lists of candidates for the presidium and secretary general and nonvoting attendants, it said.

Moreover, legislators will continue reading the draft amendment to the Law on the Promotion of Clean Production, start to deliberate a draft law on assets appraisal, and review a report on whether it is necessary to amend two annexes to the Basic Law of the Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR), the statement said.

Annex I to the Macao SAR Basic Law provides a method for selecting the SAR's chief executives, and Annex II sets out the method for the formation of its legislative council.
