A Party official in Nanfeng County, eastern Jiangxi Province has been detained on suspicion of murdering his mistress and burying her body in the woods.

Yu Kai, who became the county's publicity department chief last July, was being probed for "seriously violating the law and the Party's disciplines," according to news on www.people.com.cn.

On Monday, police received a report that a woman's body was found in the woods inside the Jinchao Development Zone. The body belonged to a college teacher who used to be Yu's mistress.

A resident who is Yu's neighbor said he saw Yu was handcuffed and led away by police on Tuesday night, the report said.

Yu enjoyed a good reputation before his fall, local people said.
