A Shanghai man who strangled two prostitutes to death, hid their bodies in an ice tank and took their belongings was sentenced to death yesterday for murder and robbery.
The killer, named Qian Bin, had all his personal property confiscated and was ordered by the Shanghai No.1 Intermediate People's Court to pay more than 1 million yuan (US$158,000) to the victims' families.
Prosecutors said Qian, in his 50s, was a regular customer at a suburban KTV house where he met the two victims and paid them for sex.
Qian admitted to killing one of the prostitutes after she threatened to expose him as a customer, and he killed the other after robbing her of cash and a laptop, the court was told.
