Invigorating social science study urged

A senior official on Saturday urged to thrive the studies of philosophy and social science by making full use of the national fund set for social and scientific researching.

Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks at a meeting held by the National Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science.

The meeting discussed the budget of the 2012 national fund for social scientific projects, which is a main resource for supporting the basic research subjects including the Marxism, demography and politics.

In recent years, China has increased sharply the fund to provide a financial guarantee for booming the social and scientific researches.

Since 2003, the office has used the fund to study major issues surrounding China's reform and opening and the modernization, and supporting projects reflecting the national development strategies, and has served well as a think tank in the social and scientific fields, Liu said.

In face of the new phase of China's development and the Party's blueprint for socialist cultural prosperity, the office should make better use of the fund, innovate working system and take in more talents, so as to produce more internationally-recognized achievements and better serve China's economic and social restructuring, Liu urged.
