A middle school teacher in northeast China's Heilongjiang province, injured after saving students from an oncoming bus, has regained consciousness but is still in a life-threatening condition, doctors said on Tuesday.

Zhang Lili, who was hit by the bus she pushed the students away from, is conscious now, but the teacher is still unable to speak, said Zhao Mingyan, with the First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University, where Zhang was transferred to on Sunday.

Zhang's vital signs are stable, but some post-operative complications have begun to appear, which still threaten Zhang's life, Zhao said.

An expert team has been formed with the doctors of this hospital as well as five medical experts sent by the Ministry of Health.

"We have done a thorough body check for Zhang and we will do everything we can to save her," Zhao said.

Zhang Lili, a 29-year-old teacher at the No. 19 middle school in the city of Jiamusi, was crossing the road just outside the school's gate when a school bus suddenly veered toward students on May 8. Zhang pushed two students out of the way of the vehicle, but she herself was run over and her legs crushed, and later they had to be amputated.
