On May 31, 10 NGOs and research institutes jointly launched a campaign in Beijing's Apple Foundation space to draw public attention to the needs of children who somehow found themselves in trouble and are in desperate need of help.

Dr. Bu Wei, a professor at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and also one of the letter's originators, explained why they used the term "children in trouble" instead of referring to them as being "vulnerable". The professor stated: "The term refers to those children whose rights have been damaged or threatened. That includes children who have been abandoned in hometown (China's so-called 'left-behind' kids), migrant children, disabled children, and so on."
"To help them get rid of their problems, we don't need a one-off charity event, but actual and sustainable actions," she added.
Shang Fang, the secretary general of the Apple Foundation, announced that the foundation’s space will be free of charge and open to charity groups and media to conduct philanthropic actions.
