A senior Chinese official has urged local governments to make more efforts to transform the economic development pattern and maintain steady economic growth.

He Guoqiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remark Friday at a meeting for reviewing local Party committees and governments' implementation of the central authorities' policy.

To promote and supervise implementation of the central authorities' policies, 12 work teams were sent to 21 provinces, regions and municipalities in June to conduct inspections on the progress of local authorities' work.

He said the inspections had effectively found some problems and proposed many suggestions to help governments at all levels better carry out the country's 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015).

The official said a long-term and forward-looking mechanism to supervise local Party committees and governments' implementation of the central policies will be established and improved.

The mechanism aims to improve the government's efficiency, prevent and reduce corruption, and help the Party's discipline and inspection organs play a better role.
