A Chinese man was sentenced to one year and two months in prison for a plane bombing hoax, a Shanghai court announced Monday.

The man, surnamed Pu, was charged for fabricating terrorism information, according to the People's Court of Shanghai Pudong New Area.

Pu, 18, called Shanghai Pudong International Airport on April 27, claiming that he had planted a bomb on an Air China flight and demanding that 1 million yuan (158,730 U.S. dollars) be remitted to his bank account.

The flight took off five hours late after a thorough check cleared the bomb alert.

The court said Pu received leniency for pleading guilty, though his conduct severely disturbed social order.
