A disgruntled petitioner detonated explosives in a township government compound, killing himself and injuring six others in east China's Shandong province Monday morning.

Qu Huaqiang, a local villager, allegedly set off homemade explosives at around 8 a.m. in the government compound of Tengjia township under the city of Yongcheng, said an official with the city government.

An investigation is under way.
