China's top legislator Wu Bangguo on Monday met delegates ahead of a seminar on local legislation.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, met the delegates who are in charge of people's congresses at provincial-level regions. He also met other staff who work in legislative affairs.

Wu extended his greetings to all legislative affairs staff around the country, and later had photographs taken with the delegates.

The seminar aims to review legislative work since the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 2002. It will also study how to improve legislative work.

The seminar also aims to prepare for the upcoming 18th National Congress of the CPC.

Wang Zhaoguo, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC, endorsed the seminar and the legislative work that the country has achieved since 2002, including the establishment of the legal system with Chinese characteristics, and contributions that local legislation has made for the legal system.

Wang urged all legislative work staff to make further improvements for the legislation, especially to strengthen the construction of cadres so to support the building of the legal system.
