Shortly after the news of a HIV/AIDS discrimination case broke on Nov. 21, Vice Premier Li Keqiang contacted the Ministry of Health to safeguard the rights of HIV/AIDS patients to receive medical treatment.

Various news outlets reported on Nov. 21 that a 25-year-old HIV-positive lung cancer patient was denied treatment at two different hospitals after learning of his HIV status. The patient later successfully received treatment at a Tianjin Hospital after he concealed his status by providing a phony HIV test result.

Li also emphasized that medical staff members who treat or come into contact with HIV/AIDS patients should take precautions to ensure their own safety.
